Congratulations to Ken King who was just recognized by VIP Realty Sanibel and Captiva as the TOP PRODUCER in October 2024! Ken is having a great year, as he was also acknowledged as Top Sales Agent this past June. And his clients recognize his skills and expertise as well. Ken was born in upstate New York but spent his grade school years in west central Georgia where he excelled in baseball and expanded his love of the outdoors. He returned to the Hudson Valley area of NY in his teens where he remained active in sports and outdoor activities. In his late teens and early 20’s, Ken was active in the Professional Rodeo circuit with his older brothers and worked with many local contractors doing remodeling projects and excavations. He enjoys working with and training animals. He was even a beekeeper while living in New York. His ability to envision and produce beautiful landscapes led him to the construction industry until he felt the need to make a difference as a Law Enforcement professional. After retiring from Law Enforcement, Ken returned to the construction industry where he managed an excavation and rock crushing company. His leadership skills were put to good use as the Project Manager and Job Superintendent for a bridge building company.
In January, 1996, Ken and his wife took a break from building their dream home in the Tampa/St.Pete area and stumbled upon Sanibel for the first time. Driving across the Sanibel Causeway during a great storm, they both immediately knew that this was where they wanted to call home. They returned later that season and closed on their first Sanibel home, April 4, 1996. For the next 20 years, he spent as much time as possible on island getting to know the lifestyle, the people and the landscape. He volunteers for the Ding Darling Wildlife Sanctuary. As a CDL holder, Ken drives their W.O.W. (Wildlife on Wheels) mobile classroom. He has also volunteers as a C.R.O.W. HammerHead.
Ken enjoys playing tennis at Beachview Tennis Club and can often be found participating in any of the local Round Robins that are offered on the Island. He started playing golf recently and has had the great fortune to have experienced his first Hole in One in October, 2016. Boating is another of Ken’s passions. You may see him cruising the canals and out on the open water with friends and family showing off all the beauty and wildlife our Islands have to offer.
After raising his daughter, Jade, who shares Ken’s love of Sanibel, sports and the outdoors, in the Hudson Valley, he and Karen made the decision to follow their hearts and move to Sanibel full-time in 2016. Here he looks forward to sharing by land and/or boat, all that he has learned and all that he loves about Sanibel with others who are looking to make this their home; vacation or permanent.
