Have you stopped at St. Michael & All Angels Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, to see the new art gracing their front yard? That beautiful work of art is the creation of one of my favorite artist’s , Don Drumm of Akron, Ohio. For many years, Don and his wife had a timeshare on Sanibel and were members of St. Michael’s. I can attest to his kindness and generosity when he and his staff lovingly restored my Drumm pieces that were severely damaged by Hurricane Ian. Thank you, Don Drumm, as he supports “Love Sanibel Back” and creating this work of art, St. Francis and the animals, to lift our spirits!
Don Drumm was born in Warren, Ohio and his Akron gallery began as an extension of his studio in 1971. In the late 1950’s that he pioneered the use of cast aluminum as an artistic medium. He taught at Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and Penland School of Crafts. He is the recipient of many awards, including the first to receive the American Institute of Architecture “Artist and Craftsman Excellence” Award. www.donddrummstudios.com

Another piece of Don Drumm’s work is on a house on Sanibel. He is well known for his sun sculptures. Also, a bench created by Drumm is outside Clyde Butcher’s gallery in the Everglades.
