How are you celebrating Cinco de Mayo on this beautiful Sunday on Sanibel? The celebration of Mexican culture, cuisine and heritage began in California and is more popular in the U.S. than Mexico. The 5th of May is not Mexican Independence Day. That is celebrated on September 16. But Cinco de Mayo does celebrate the Mexican victory over the Second French Empire in a battle that took place in 1862.
While you are spending some time on the beach this afternoon, you may be indulging in some chips, salsa and cervezas. Afterall, more beer is sold today in the U.S. than during the Super Bowl! Enjoy but remember what Mom said…..moderation in all things! Stay safe and Happy Cinco de Mayo!
