Ken was born in upstate New York, but spent his grade school years in west central Georgia where he excelled in baseball and expanded his love of the outdoors. He returned to the Hudson Valley area of NY in his teens where he remained active in sports and outdoor activities. In his late teens and early 20’s, Ken was active in the Professional Rodeo circuit with his older brothers and worked with many local contractors doing remodeling projects and excavation. He enjoys working with and training animals. He was even a beekeeper while living in New York. His ability to envision and produce beautiful landscapes led him to the construction industry until he felt the need to make a difference as a Law Enforcement professional. After retiring from Law Enforcement, Ken returned to the construction industry where he managed an excavation and rock crushing company. His leadership skills were put to good use as the Project Manager and Job Superintendent for a bridge building company.
In January, 1996, Ken and his wife, Karen, took a break from building their dream home in the Tampa/St. Pete area, and stumbled upon Sanibel for the first time. Driving across the Sanibel Causeway, in the midst of a great storm, they both immediately knew that this was where they want to call home. They returned later that season and closed on their first Sanibel home April 4, 1996. For the next 20 years, he spent as much time on Sanibel as possible, getting to know the lifestyle, the people and the landscape.
Ken enjoys playing tennis at Beachview Tennis Club and participates regularly in local round robins. Recently, he has started playing golf and what a start it has been! Ask him about his first Hole-in-One! And if that’s not enough, Ken loves to get out on his boat. You may see him cruising the canals and out on open water with his wife, Karen, his daughter, Jade and their many friends, showing off all the beauty and wildlife our Islands have to offer.
