August already? Yes! It’s that time of year when we celebrate the Great American Outdoor Act with FREE admission to J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Thursday, August 4.
When I was researching “things to do on Sanibel & Captiva”, the first thing that popped up on the screen was “Ding” Darling! Of course it did! It’s an extraordinary place and there is so much to do there, you could and should spend the day!
At over 5,000 acres, “Ding” Darling covers one-third of the entire island of Sanibel. People come from all over the world to bird watch over 200 species while exploring one of the country’s largest undeveloped mangrove systems. And wildlife abounds! Reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, oh my!
Most days, the Wildlife Drive fee is $10 but on August 4, IT’S FREE! Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to see all of Sanibel’s natural beauty showcased at “Ding” Darling. Years ago, I spent a lot of time and effort to go to Zanzibar where they are very proud of their mangroves. And when I arrived there, all I could think of was “I could be on Sanibel!”.
Wildlife Drive is open from 7 AM to 7:30 PM on August 4. For more information, visit their website at dingdarlingsociety.org or call 239-472-1100. And when you are done hiking, biking and kayaking your way through “Ding” Darling, stop by the VIP office at 1560 Periwinkle Way between 9 AM and 5:30 PM to chat with a realtor about having your own special place on Sanibel or Captiva. Imagine being able to visit “Ding” Darling every day! It’s not a theme park, it’s the real deal! The scenery changes daily and you never know what surprises await! Dreams do come true on Sanibel and Captiva! And it’s a lot closer than Zanzibar!
