Southern Living Magazine recently named Sanibel to their list of “50 Best Beach Towns in the South 2025”. Sanibel ranked #6, but those of us who are fortunate enough to live here think it’s #1! Southern Living notes that Sanibel is “a sunny slice of paradise that’s as resilient as they come….with no stop lights or high-rises, the island is an old-school beach town at its best.”
And it’s that old-school beach town charm that we are showing off today. Once you’ve collected all your shells, take a bike ride around the island and look for two special spots: The Sanibel Keychain Library and the Little Free Book Library. You might be able to trade a pretty shell for a keychain or other trinket outside the Sanibel Carts On Island shop on Rabbit Road. Then, bike down SanCap Rd. to Palm Ridge to Periwinkle Way towards the Community House. There you will find the Little Free Book Library. Yesterday, I even found a lovely painted shell there! It’s certainly worth exploring! And if you really need a key chain or a map or just want to chat about what is happening on our “magical” * islands, stop by the VIP offices to meet with the REALTOR on duty. They are happy to share their knowledge of all things Sanibel and Captiva, from restaurants, to shops to what it like to live on an island. We look forward to meeting you!
