Not only is the wonderful Sanibel Public Library Foundation sponsoring an authors series, The Ding Darling Wildlife Society Friends of the Refuge will host two additional distinguished authors, BARBARA KINGSOLVER and CARL HIAASEN.
Barbara Kingsolver, a Pulitzer-prize winning American novelist and biologist, may be best known for the classic “Poisonwood Bible”. It might be interesting to ask her how this tale of a missionary family in Africa reflects her time spent living there as a young woman. Most recently, Kingsolver has collaborated with her daughter, Lily, to create the illustrated children’s book “Coyote’s Wild Home”. Lily Kingsolver will join her mother on the dais for their Thursday, January 11 presentation. Tickets for their lecture go on sale Thursday, November 30.
If you enjoy Dave Berry’s books, you will certainly be delighted to hear Carl Hiaasen speak on Thursday, February 29. Both authors were columnists for the Miami Herald and are members of what I call the “Florida Fun Four”: Hiaasen, Berry, Tim Dorsey and our own Randy Wayne White. (I wonder if Mr. White will be spotted in the audience that day??). Hiaasen’s main genre is humorous crime thrillers like “Squeeze Me”. Twenty-one of Hiaasen’s books have been on the New York Times Best Sellers list and his novel “Bad Monkey” is being adapted for a series by Apple TV. Tickets for his lecture go on sale Thursday, December 7.
Both presentations will be held at 10 AM at the Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Tickets for this fundraiser to support the continued repair and recovery of Ding Darling Refuge are $25 each and will be available thru Eventbrite. Perfect for holiday gift giving! I look forward to seeing you there!
